A Little Corner of Contentment

It’s been a juggle these last few months for more reasons than I can count, but one decision made everything feel a little lighter: I moved into a larger space.

The difference is remarkable. I’ve spent time making sure everything has a home—every tool, every material, every odd little thing finally claimed by a shelf, a drawer, or a box. In this industry, having the right headspace is half the battle. We can’t just pack up and wander into a co-working space when we need clarity. “Bring your own hammer” doesn’t quite have the same ring as “bring your laptop.”

But there’s a trade-off. A dedicated space can also become a very quiet space, especially if you’re not in a shared workshop or collaborative building. The silence can be its own kind of distraction.

So I fill it with music.

I’ve built up a vast and eclectic collection over the years—soundtracks, old favourites, new discoveries—each one offering just the right background hum to keep the gears turning and the hands busy. It’s amazing how a song can make an empty room feel lived in, or how a good rhythm can draw you back into flow when your head starts to drift.

For now, this little corner of contentment feels exactly right: spacious enough to breathe, quiet enough to think, and filled—just enough—with the noise that keeps me going.
